Daniela Perrotti is Professor at the University of Louvain and founder and director of the UrbanLab. Her interdisciplinary research connects urban metabolism, urban planning, and systems thinking and participatory research through design, integrating quantitative and qualitative methods to support resource-sensitive and climate-responsive urban transitions.
Daniela Perrotti is Professor at the University of Louvain’s Faculty of Architecture, Architectural Engineering and Urban Planning and a member of the Board of Directors of the Louvain Research Institute for Landscape, Architecture and Built Environment. She founded the UrbanLab as an interdisciplinary platform bringing together engineering, environmental science, geography, data science and the social sciences.
Her research advances the conceptual and methodological foundations of urban metabolism and translates them into spatial planning applications and decision-support tools. A central concern is the relationship between resource flows and provisioning infrastructures, ecosystem services, natural capital, and human wellbeing. She has led and supervised internationally funded projects across Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America and currently serves as Principal Investigator for the University of Louvain’s participation in the Horizon Europe project CARING NATURE. She is a Lead Author of the European State of the Climate report (Copernicus Climate Change Service and World Meteorological Organization) and a Scientific Commissioner of the Belgian Funds for Scientific Research (F.R.S.-FNRS) and the Belgian Academy for Research and Higher Education (ARES).
