Postdoctoral Researcher in Urban Systems

University of Louvain

Ehsan Ahmadian investigates how urban metabolism models represent actors, institutions and forms of agency. His work develops systematic classifications of resource-use assessment methods and contributes to integrated conceptual and decision frameworks for understanding urban social-ecological systems.

Ehsan Ahmadian is a postdoctoral researcher in the F.R.S.–FNRS-funded aIST-nexus programme at the University of Louvain. His work focuses on the agency component of urban metabolism research and on the ways in which assessment models identify, classify or overlook actors involved in the production, distribution and governance of urban resource flows.

He contributes to the development of a conceptual meta-framework linking agency, information and spacetime in urban social-ecological systems. This includes systematic review and classification of urban resource-use assessment models, analysis of stakeholder engagement and investigation of how modelling choices shape the visibility of institutions, communities and practices. His collaborative research with Nicola Bertoldi, Elisabetta Rosa and Daniela Perrotti connects conceptual analysis with computational literature review and discussions about actionable urban sustainability science. The resulting work aims to improve model selection and to support more transparent, actor-sensitive and policy-relevant urban metabolism assessments.
