Mazia Chaker-Aissi is an architect, lecturer and researcher in Algeria whose work evaluates urban symbiosis strategies, energy demand and carbon-emission reduction. Her research investigates how local exchanges of resources and infrastructure can support more efficient and sustainable urban development in Algiers.
Mazia Chaker-Aissi is a lecturer and researcher in architecture and urban development in Algeria and a former visiting doctoral researcher in the Urban Metabolism Lab. Her work is associated with the Ville, Urbanisme et Développement Durable research laboratory and examines the performance of local urban-symbiosis strategies in Algiers.
Her research evaluates how exchanges between urban activities, buildings and infrastructures can reduce energy demand and carbon emissions while improving the use of local resources. By applying urban-metabolism and symbiosis concepts at the local scale, she investigates the conditions under which one activity’s residual flows can become useful inputs for another. The work contributes an Algerian case study to international debates on industrial and urban ecology and highlights the need to adapt circular strategies to local planning systems, climatic conditions and patterns of urban development.
