Owusu Amponsah is Associate Professor in the Department of Planning and Head of the Centre for Settlements Studies at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana. He holds a PhD in Planning and has extensive academic and professional experience in sustainable and inclusive city development, informal urbanism, housing, policy analysis and monitoring, evaluation and learning.

As a visiting professor and continuing collaborator of the Urban Metabolism Lab, he contributes contextual and planning expertise to research on informal settlements and nature-based solutions in Ghana. This collaboration supports doctoral work in Accra and Kumasi through local knowledge, field partnerships, survey design and policy interpretation. His broader research examines how urban greenery, livelihood systems and planning institutions shape the sustainability of rapidly growing cities. Alongside teaching and doctoral supervision, he has worked with public agencies, international organisations and community-focused programmes, helping connect academic evidence with urban policy and implementation.
