Publication overview
This article develops a GIS-based method for connecting urban resource flows with open-space networks and vulnerable communities in Mexico City. It responds to the difficulty of translating city-scale metabolism indicators into spatial priorities for planning.
The method integrates resource-use and infrastructure data with communal lands, indigenous areas, public space and socio-economic vulnerability. A Borough Pattern Scan supports comparison across scales and helps identify resource-efficiency hotspots and areas where infrastructure and open-space provision do not align with community needs.
The study demonstrates that spatial metabolism analysis can inform more than efficiency. By making inequalities and landscape structures visible, it supports planning strategies that connect resource management with accessible public-space networks and environmental justice.
