This chapter connects urban-metabolism thinking with the adaptive capacity of cities and communities. It considers how concepts of resource circulation, interdependence and resilience can be translated from analytical frameworks into practical approaches to urban transformation.

The contribution frames resilience as a process involving material systems, institutions and collective capacities rather than as a fixed property of a city. It places metabolic knowledge within the wider challenge of developing situated and actionable transition strategies.
