Project overview

Landscape Planning and Design for Energy Transition examines how renewable-energy infrastructures can be integrated with landscape values, everyday uses and territorial development. It builds on Daniela Perrotti’s earlier research on energy landscapes and on doctoral work by Roberta Pistoni concerning design principles for rational energy management and sustainable energy landscapes.

The research combines landscape analysis, policy interpretation and research by design across multiple scales. It asks how energy systems become visible and acceptable in everyday landscapes, how protected or productive territories negotiate infrastructure change, and how planning can move beyond treating landscape as a constraint to energy development. The associated doctoral work involved AgroParisTech-ABIES, Wageningen University and French landscape-planning networks.

This strand connects the Lab’s present urban-metabolism agenda with a longer trajectory of landscape research. It frames energy transition as a spatial and cultural transformation as well as a technological one, and it provides concepts for linking resource flows, infrastructure, ecological processes and public experience.
