This chapter presents urban metabolism as a holistic way of understanding the relationships among resources, infrastructures, environments and communities. It situates resilience within the organisation and transformation of the systems that sustain urban life.

Rather than treating resilience as a purely technical capacity, the contribution connects material and ecological processes with spatial practice and collective action. Urban metabolism becomes a framework for examining dependencies, vulnerabilities and opportunities for transformation.
